GUJRANWALA – Pakistani police have registered a first information report FIR against ‘unidentified terrorist’ in case of India’s Pathankot airbase attack, private TV channel reported.
The FIR has been registered by Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Punjab Police Gujranwala on a complaint filed by Deputy Home Secretary Aitzazud Din. Seven Indian soldiers were killed when a group of terrorists stormed Pathankot airbase on January 2 this year. All of the attackers were eliminated by Indian troops.
India had handed over evidence to Pakistan which reportedly includes recordings of phone calls between the terrorists and their alleged handlers in Pakistan.
Earlier on January 13, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif announced arrest of several suspects belonging to Jaish-e-Mohammed group believed to be behind attack on Indian air base. Islamabad is also considering sending a team to Pathankot to seek “additional information” to spur the investigation.
The attack – a rare targeting of an Indian military installation – threatened to undermine improving relations with Pakistan after decades of fractious ties. It came just a week after Prime Minister Narendra Modi became the first Indian leader to visit Pakistan in 11 years.
Foreign secretary level talks between the countries were also postponed after the incident, however, the Foreign Office on Thursday urged India to announce date of dialogue at earliest. He said that both the sides are in contact on the issue, but no date has yet been fixed
