LAHORE– Punjab has advised the farmers to preserve harvested wheat and threshed straw as shower associated with dust-storms may occur in Sargodha, Gujranwala, Lahore and Faisalabad divisions.
According to Met office, dust raising winds are also likely in southern Punjab (Multan, Bahawalpur, DG Khan division) during next 24 hours and hot and dry weather is expected in other parts of the province during the period.
Mainly hot and dry weather is expected in most areas but the farmers should complete wheat harvesting and threshing and should not put grains and threshed straw uncovered. Punjab Agriculture Department has also directed the farmers to complete harvesting and threshing as soon as possible as even a light shower would damage the standing crops, resulting heavy losses.
In an attempt to save the commodity from rains and dust-storms, the Punjab Agricultural Department has asked farmers to carefully use plastic sheets to cover the harvested crop.
